Just south of Durango in New Mexico, located between the towns of Farmington and Aztec, New Mexico is the Glade Run Trail System, home of the Road Apple Rally Course. The Road Apple Rally began in 1981 as a competition between horses and bikes, then became a bicycle only race and the longest running annual mountain bike race in the US. The riding is high desert single track with sweeping views of the La Plata Mts to the north and stunning buttes to the south. Once the weather starts turning cold and snowy in Durango, driving south about 30 minutes to access the Road Apple makes for a great day of riding. On this day my friend and I rode a 30 mile loop.
