Great Outdoors Colorado

In August we took a tour through the Horse Gulch trail system with professional photographer Sean Sheridan, principle of 4 Minute Media (www.4minutemedia.com), on assignment from Great Outdoors Colorado, aka GOCO (www.goco.org). GOCO is an organization that invests a portion of Colorado lottery proceeds to help preserve and enhance the state’s parks, trails, wildlife, rivers, and open spaces. Communities apply for grants to GOCO for various projects, and their independent board awards competitive grants to local governments and land trusts, making investments through Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Created in 1992, GOCO has committed more than $825 million in lottery proceeds to more than 3,500 projects in all 64 counties without any tax dollar  support.  in 2009 the city of Durango received a $234,500 grant to preserve 223 acres of open space as part of the Horse Gulch Preservation project.  Horse Gulch is home to miles and miles of numerous trails within town, enjoyed by  not only mountain bikers, but also hikers, runners, and equestrians.  The grant from GOCO has helped to ensure that these trails we all enjoy will remain open to the public forever. During this ride in mid August, Sean rode with us to take pictures of the Horse Gulch open space area. He carried about 30 pounds and $50,000 worth of camera equipment on his back as he rode with myself, two guides, Jeff and Josh, and a couple of kids.  He took plenty of pictures and captured some great images. In fact, one of his shots landed on the cover of GOCO’s 2014 annual report. Here is a sampling of some of his photos. GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014 Mountain Biking - Horse Gulch and Telegraph Trail, Durango, August 7, 2014-86 copy Mountain Biking - Horse Gulch and Telegraph Trail, Durango, August 7, 2014-84 copy Mountain Biking - Horse Gulch and Telegraph Trail, Durango, August 7, 2014-63 copy GOCO Mountain Biking - Durango, August 7, 2014
