Just 3 hours east of Durango sits Great Sand Dunes National Park. One of 59 National Parks, the Great Sand Dunes were formed thousands of years ago when wind whipped up sand from the San Juan Mountains and deposited it at the base of the Sangri de Christo Mountains. This formed 30 square miles of the tallest sand dunes in North America. Tracy and I camped there for three nights during a full moon which allowed us to hike and explore the Dunes at night as well as during the day. This place is like no other in the world.
