Welcome Back

DMBT’s Mission Statement is “Make friends every ride.” That is certainly true with our good friend Michelle from Tennessee. Michelle’s first tour with us was September 2014. Since then we have been on more than half dozen rides together. She’s a great rider with family ties to Durango that keeps her coming back each year. Happy to be able to keep introducing new trails to her such as Phils World this past weekend. Until the next time, Cheers!

Spring Time Tours

Nothing beats springtime in the Southwest. Snow in the high country to get those last days in on the slopes, and single track drying out down low just itchin to be ridden. While more and more town trails in Durango become ride ready, we are so happy to be the only guide company with permits to lead tours on the fast, flowy, fun trails at Phils World, Alien Run, and Glade Area trail system, all 30-40 minutes from Durango. The Webb family, Tony, Micah, Hollis, and Titus, great riders from Georgia, can check Phils off the “must ride” list.

Making Family Memories

It’s always special leading families on tours. With the great weather we’ve been having in Durango it’s allowed us to start guiding on the trails in town. Thursday we took out David, Sara, and their son Gavin. We covered about 15 miles in 3 hours hitting some primo single track. Friday David and Gavin went out with us again, this time riding Alien Run.

#PedalPowerKids

The 2021 tour season has officially kicked off with a four hour ride with Rachel Varn. Rachel, living in Maryland, is the founder of Pedal Power Kids, an organization formed to get more kids on bikes! Saturday’s tour, a 17 mile ride on the Alien Run trail system, including the Outer Limits, was certainly memorable. The Alien Run trail system gets its name because supposedly on March 25, 1948 a UFO crashed on this piece of high desert ground near Aztec, NM. The official site of the crash is marked by a plaque. The trail is made up of 3 separate loops, each one slightly more difficult. This includes the Outer limits, a 9 mile section made up of challenging terrain with ups and downs, twists and turns. Alien Run is a great ride for early and late season tours.

Early Season Riding

The 2021 tour season is getting under way. Spring has sprung and DMBT is up and running offering tours to early season hot spots such as Alien Run and the Glade Area Recreation Area which includes the famous Road Apple Course near Aztec, New Mexico. Another early spring option is the ever popular Phil’s World trail system thirty minutes west of Durango near Cortez, Colorado. The past weekend was perfect weather and trail conditions for some high desert riding.

Prospect Trail

Was in Telluride July 1, first day the Prospect Trail was opened for the summer. Rode the gondola up to start the ride, finishing with some great downhill flow. Was even greeted with bacon and grilled cheese at the top by the San Miguel Bike Alliance.

Chasin Aliens

Drove Gene and his son Gavin the 25 miles south to experience the amazing Alien Run Trail. This is high desert riding at its finest. Located just south of Aztec, New Mexico, rumor has it that an alien space craft crashed at this site. I have to say that the three single track loops you can take are out of this world! The boys handled the 6 mile beginner loop like champs

Ezra

Had a great time taking Ezra, from East Tennessee, up and over Telegraph. A elementary school teacher, he was on a 4 week vacation with his family through the west. He made sure to carve out some time to hit the renowned Durango single track!

Jayhawks Hit the Trail

Allen, from Kansas, was looking for an activity with some adventure to it on his last day of vacation in Durango. They had already hiked, rafted, rode horses and shopped. He decided to try mountain biking for him, his daughter, and her friend. They all did great, with his daughter declaring that was the most fun activity they had done on their trip.

Shredding in Purg Parks and Chapman Hill

Kyle and Cullen have gotten pretty good at riding on rails, boxes and doing jumps. They have come a long way in their riding skills from when I first taught them. It has been fun to watch and to ride with them. Here are some pictures of the boys riding at Purg and Chapman Hill, Durango’s in town ski hill.
