Early Season Riding

The 2021 tour season is getting under way. Spring has sprung and DMBT is up and running offering tours to early season hot spots such as Alien Run and the Glade Area Recreation Area which includes the famous Road Apple Course near Aztec, New Mexico. Another early spring option is the ever popular Phil’s World trail system thirty minutes west of Durango near Cortez, Colorado. The past weekend was perfect weather and trail conditions for some high desert riding.

2 4 1

It’s not often I skip the uphill ride and shuttle to the top. But sometimes it just has to be done. That was the case last weekend when my buddy Drew, aka @elementelectric, came to town. We shuttled Pass Trail-Engineer Mountain AND Haflin Creek Trail dame day. Only about 15 miles total of riding, but we dropped close to 5,000 vertical feet and rode two epic downhills.

Cats in the Cradle

Always great to lead a father and son duo on a ride. Billy, who just graduated from THE Ohio State, and his dad Chris, an ultra marathoner, wanted to get out and see Durango from a different view. We went on our classic 4 hour tour, covering 23 miles and 2,200 foot elevation gain, with dramatic views and epic single track. Finished up with some delicious beers at Steamworks brewing Co.

Brothers from Denmark

Jonas and Nicolai, two teenage brothers visiting from Denmark, shredded the trails in Overend Park. These two didn’t have a lot of experience riding single track, but they were super athletic and had a great time. We did a 2 hour tour covering 14.3 miles (22.6 km) and 1,721 feet (525 m) climbing. They both agreed the Durango Mountain Bike Tour was way more exciting than any of the other activities they did in town.
