Day two of spring break took me and Kyle to Prescott, AZ another destination of the SWSTA tour in October. We checked in at the 100 year old historic Hotel St Michael on Whiskey Row before heading to Soul Ride bike shop for some trail info. Cina gave us the low down and we had a great 2 hour ride on trail 396. Dinner at the hotel Bistro, some fro yo downtown, then bed. Up next, riding in Scottsdale tomorrow.
It’s been a while since my last blog, but that’s because I’ve been super busy with the holidays and shifting gears to Snow Board season. We started out pretty slow in terms of snow, however the last three weeks have more than made up for it. Purgatorys mid mountain base is 78″, with 31″ falling in the last week.
A recent Spring Break trip to Sedona, Arizona led to some great camping, hiking, and Mountain Biking with Tracy. Base camp was along the Oak Creek in the Manzinita Campground for three nights, where we launched from for bike rides and hikes. We rode in West Sedona on Lizard Head, Chuck wagon, and Mescal amongst others. We also rode Adobe Jack, Jordan and Crusty, as well as Templeton, and Eazy Breezy in the Village of Oak Creek.
Seems like only yesterday I was teaching these boys to ski and snowboard when they were three. Now I’m trying to keep up with them and watching them do a lot more crazy tricks then I want to try. Riding with these two are some of the best times of my life. These pictures were taken 2 days ago after we received 2 inches over night and 8 in the last 24 hours. Since then we been hit with over a foot and it is still dumping now!
The end of November and beginning of December, as well as the end of March and beginning of April is the time of year in Durango when many of us pull the “Durango Double.” This is phrase coined when someone gets in some sliding on the snow in the morning, and riding on single track in the afternoon. That was the case for me last Friday when I took several runs snowboarding at Purgatory in the morning then rode the Alien Run in Aztec, NM. Gotta love this town!
